Egypt's social security systems suffer from inefficiency and lack of coordination, inadequate coverage especially outside urban agglomerations and the uneven distribution of benefits. Less than 50% of beneficiaries and persons in need receive benefits.

From 29. October – 2. November 2017, the German Embassy in Cairo and several German Organizations organized a "Germany Festival in the Nile delta" including numerous cultural, scientific and information events in different governorates: Mansoura (29.10.), Shebin El Kom (30.10.), Damanhur (1.11.) and Alexandria (2.11).

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Egypt office in cooperation with Ministry of Social Solidarity (MoSS) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) organized a workshop titled “Social Security Systems Strengthening”, which took place at Ministry of Social Solidarity premises in Cairo from 15.-17.
