Germany Festival in the Nile Delta (29.10. – 2.11.2017)/ FES Renewable Energy Workshop, 2. November 2017

From 29. October – 2. November 2017, the German Embassy in Cairo and several German Organizations organized a "Germany Festival in the Nile delta" including numerous cultural, scientific and information events in different governorates: Mansoura (29.10.), Shebin El Kom (30.10.), Damanhur (1.11.) and Alexandria (2.11).

November 2017, the German Embassy in Cairo and several German Organizations organized a "Germany Festival in the Nile Delta" including numerous cultural, scientific and information events in different governorates: Mansoura (29.10.), Shebin El Kom (30.10.), Damanhur (1.11.) and Alexandria (2.11).

In addition to the German Embassy several German institutions took part at this event: Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, the Goethe-Institute Cairo and Alexandria, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Archaeological Institute (DAI), the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ), KfW Development bank in addition to German Schools and the German University in Cairo.

With the frame of the Germany Festival in the Nile Delta, these organizations wanted to present themselves outside Cairo, enabling the citizens to get information about Germany and to know more about the activities of German organizations in Egypt.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung planned a public lecture and discussion on the topic “Renewable Energy” in the presence of His Excellency Julius Georg Luy, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Egypt, which took place at the Alexandria’s Library on 2. November 2017.

This lecture was presented by Mr. Youssef Sarhan, co-founder of SolarizEgypt, for highlighting the importance of solar energy to the Egyptian economy, its potential as well as current applications. In addition to that the impact of current policy frameworks governing the young sector was discussed. The German ambassador praised the work of the institutions on several important areas in Egypt. He also stressed on Germany's interest in the field of renewable energy, which is one of the priorities of German international cooperation with Egypt.
