Conference: "Egypt Transition into Sustainable Energy; Economic, Social and Political Perspectives

Cairo, 9. February 2016.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Egypt in collaboration with the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) organized a conference “Egypt – The transition into sustainable energy; Economic, social and political perspectives”, which took place on 9. February 2016 at the Intercontinental City stars hotel in Cairo.

The conference discussed the future of sustainable energies in Egypt from economic, social and political perspectives.

In the panel sessions, speakers elaborated the sustainable energy position among the decision makers’ priorities and the opportunities and barriers of financing sustainable energies. Moreover, the speakers presented the distributed solar energy systems and its future of Egypt.

The panelists included sustainable energy officials, academia, civil society representatives and energy experts.

Mr. Ambassador Julius Georg Luy (German Ambassador in Egypt), Dr. Mohamed El-Sobki (Chairman of New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA)), Dr. Ahmed Badr (RCREEE executive director) and Mr. Armin Hasemann (Resident Representative of FES) welcomed the attendees and expressed their expectations from the conference.

The opening speech of Mr. Ambassador Julius George Luy showed his support for the steps Egypt is taking to convert into clean energy resources.

In addition, Dr. Badr gave the attendees an overview of the topics to be discussed during the conference.
