Internships

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Egypt Office is headed by a German representative and has currently eight local employees, including two program managers.

The FES Egypt Office regularly offers university students of relevant subjects (e.g. social sciences, Islamic studies, economics, journalism, et al.) an insight into the field of international cooperation. Applicants must have completed at least their Bachelor’s degree. Preference is given to applicants who manifest strong interest in societal affairs.

For each intern, a detailed training plan is developed. They are supervised by the project manager responsible for their field of assignment. The working language is English. Since a major part of the project activities take place in Arabic, a basic knowledge of Arabic is mandatory.

Internships generally cover a period of two to maximum three months. Please note that the month of Ramadan (alternating annually) as well as July and August (summer breaks) are not suitable for an internship.

The following regulations apply:

  • The intern is responsible for the logistics of the internship and bears the resulting costs including getting a visa, booking flight, accommodation & living costs, etc.
  • The applicant is responsible for ensuring completion of official procedures for entry into Egypt and the subsequent stay.
  • FES does not have any responsibility or provide insurance for accidents which may happen during the internship.
  • The acquisition of insurance, overseas health cover and liability insurance is the responsibility of the applicant. A proof of concluding an international health insurance, liability insurance and accident insurance for the duration of the internship in FES must be provided by the intern.

Applicants are asked to send the following information in English by e-mail:

  • Curriculum Vitae with a recent photograph.
  • Letter of motivation explaining the interest in an internship with the FES Egypt Office
  • The fields of work, subject areas and tasks that are of particular and relevance to the applicant
  • The preferred period and dates for the internship.

Please send the application to this e-mail address: fes.egypt(at)fes.deThe demand for internships is high and we recommend applying early. Due to the limited number of openings we will apply a selection process to the incoming applications and inform you in due time, in any case no later than three months before.
